Chest infections (ECI) after acute stroke are associated with increased mortality and worse long-term outcome. To determine a set of findings predicting ECI after stroke prospective observational study assesses predefined variables, which would provide the highest predictive value. Combining all relevant variables dysphagia, National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale score ≥10, normetanephrine >80 ng/L, and lesion size >33% of MCA territory independently predicted ECI. After acute ischemic stroke ECI can be early predicted with high accuracy using a small set of simple measures. |
