In vitro batch cultures were used to simulate aerobic processes that occur in these lactic acid-fermented feeds, with measurements of pH, organic acids and ethanol being used as indicators of change in metabolic activity. The use of selective antibiotics made it possible to draw conclusions on the causative microbial groups.
