The relatively peaceful co-existence enjoyed by adherents of different religions in Nigeria following the jihâd raids of Usman Dan Fodio well into the 1970’s was altered at the turn of the decade and early 1980’s to violent confrontations between Christians and Muslims including intra-religious riots which have remained unabated to the present. This thesis focuses on the violent clashes between Christians and Muslims and its implications on Christian-Muslim relations within this time frame. Due to Īsāwā’s non-involvement in the violent clashes, we examined why and how Christians and Muslims can learn from their insights.
