In the Eastern Gotland Basin small-scale mixing processes were analysed from hydrographic grids during the 1997/98 Major Inflow. Heat and salt diffusivities, decay rates of temperature and salt intrusions caused by the inflow were calculated. From two in the Stolpe Channel deployed ADCPs in 2006, dynamics of dense bottom currents and associated volume and salt transports were examined. The deep water showed characteristic fluctuations of 2-4 days and their steering mechanism were analysed. Currents and volume transports simulated by the MOM4 model matched estimated transports from the ADCPs.
