However, up to today the quantification of GHG balances for peatlands is characterised by high uncertainties mainly resulting from a variety of land uses, an increased climate variability, and methodological deficits. This thesis confirmed that above all other factors, water level is of major importance for GHG mitigation in temperate peatlands.
