This thesis provides a comprehensive study of the properties of a specific type of a wakefield dechirper: a rectangular waveguide coated with dielectrics. Here, a semi-analytical model of the dechirper is developed and then implemented in the programming language Python. The programme is then used to perform parameter studies regarding the geometrical and dielectric properties of the dechirper. As a last step, a prototype dechirper is introduced. The results of experiments carried out with this prototype are presented and compared to simulations performed with the developed programme.
