Vermutlich verursacht die Instabilität regulärer TiO6 Oktaeder eine Verschiebung der Positionen von Titanatomen in Festkörpern aus nanostrukturiertem Calciumtitanat. Daher kann piezoelektrisches Verhalten, genannt "Pseudopiezoelektrizität", in Calciumtitanat beobachtet werden.
