This dissertation presents an analytical scenario for a comprehensive chemical analysis of organic aerosols by combining different instrumentation based on electron ionization and time-of-flight mass spectrometry (TOFMS). Two-dimensional gas chromatography TOFMS was performed to provide in-depth molecular information on these complex organic mixtures. This thesis highlights the importance of a complementary experimental and analytical approach and makes a valuable contribution towards understanding the relationship between the toxicological effects and chemical composition of aerosols.
