The present work focusses on Zn-based heterogeneous catalysts for the polymerization of epoxides. The sum formula of the catalyst and the effects of the complexing agents on the structure were determined. Next to this the structure of the active site and the polymerization mechanism was proposed. Additionally, a heterogeneous catalyst was used to prepare novel homotelechelic silicone copolymers. Molecular Zn-based catalysts were prepared, characterized, and tested for their catalytic activity in (co)polymerizations.
