This theoretical framework has been applied to the diahaline (across surfaces of constant salinity) fluxes of the Baltic Sea, resulting in maps that can visualize hot spots of mixing and circulation. Furthermore, a single-model ensemble simulation was combined with the theory, in order to enable a study of local and short-term dynamics up to daily temporal scales in salinity space.</field><field name="mods.abstract">Der theoretische Ansatz der Wassermassentransformation (WMT) wurde um einen lokalen Ansatz erweitert, der die Wassermassentransformation in lokalen Wassersäulen berücksichtigt. Dieser theoretische Ansatz wurde auf die diahalinen Flüsse der Ostsee angewendet, sodass Karten produziert werden konnten, die Hotspots der Vermischung und Zirkulation visualisieren können.
