Mechanical design depends on material choice. This work improves material selection by introducing an accurate filtering method for brittle materials in the early design stage. It also expands the design space through analysis of confined mechanical metamaterials, introducing rotation imperfections that can significantly affect failure. The findings provide enhanced tools and design rules for more reliable failure analysis, improving material selection in mechanical engineering.
