Abstract: There is no preclinical diagnosis for the HELLP-syndrome available. In this study we generated profiles of plasma proteins from HELLP-patients and healthy pregnants (2D gel electrophoresis, mass spectrometry). Statistically significant expressions were obtained in inter-alpha-trypsin inhibitor H4, kininogen 1, fibrinogen gamma, transthyretin, haptoglobins, and serum amyloid A (SAA). The differential expression of SAA was validated and quantitatively assayed by ELISA. SAA plasma levels were found to be above 3.51 mg/L in HELLP-syndrome and below 3.51 mg/L in the nonHELLP-group. The intention is to generate protein profiles that could function as marker signature for the HELLP syndrome.
