Abstract: The work in this dissertation is mainly concerned with synthesis of sterically encumbered biaryls, highly functionalized polyketide-type phenols, benzophenones, phenols, (arylated, chlorinated and fluorinated) azaxanthones, functionalized fluorenones, fluoroarenes, and chloroarenes based on reactions of 4-aryl-1,3 bis(silyloxy)-1,3-butadienes, first 2-Chloro and 2-fluoro1,3-bis(silyloxy)-1,3-butadienes, 4-chlro1,3-bis(silyloxy)-1,3-butadienes, 1,3,5-tris(silyloxy)-1,3,5-hexatrienes with 3-formylchromones, 3-cyanochrones and 3-silyloxy-2-en-1-one.
