Abstract: Light propagation in bounded media is subjected to the coupling of many-body system and photon field; additionally, translational invariance is missing. The problem is described using nonequilibrium Green's functions. Incident light splits off from the photon field propagators. This is an essential advantage and sheds light on the interplay of light and matter. An extended radiation law is derived and discussed in the context of excited semiconductors. Optical signatures of quantum condensates in the e-h plasma are described and their phase boundary as well as the ionization behavior is studied.
