Abstract: Binary diffusion coefficients of the argon-neon mixture have been measured as function of mole fraction, pressure, and temperature with a new variant of the Loschmidt technique with an uncertainty of ±0.5…1%. The concentration in both half cells of the diffusion cell has been determined simultaneously using an optical system for holographic interferometry each. Separate refractive index measurements result in values for the first refractivity virial coefficient of the pure components with an uncertainty of ±0.1%. The density dependence of the diffusion in the Ar-Ne mixture is investigated experimentally for the first time.
