Natürliche Killerzellen sind als Bestandteil des angeborenen Immunsystems in der Lage,
virusinfizierte bzw. maligne transformierte Zellen abzutöten. In der vorliegenden
Arbeit wurden mit Hilfe von Genchips differenziell exprimierte Gene natürlicher Killerzellen
von Patienten mit Kopf-Hals-Karzinom im Vergleich zu Kontrollprobanden identifiziert,
die mögliche Rückschlüsse auf den klinischen Status zulassen. Die Kenntnis der Funktionsregulierung
natürlicher Killerzellen besitzt große klinische Relevanz und bietet einen Ansatz
zur Etablierung neuer antitumoröser Immuntherapieverfahren.

Being part of the innate immune system, natural killer cells are able to kill tumor
or virus infected cells. This study presents differentially expressed genes in natural
killer cells from head and neck squamous cell carcinoma patients in comparison to
healthy probands. These newly identified genes may act as a predictor of clinical
tumor state and present candidates for further investigation. Knowledge in exact mechanisms
of regulation of natural killer cell activity is a key to develope new strategies
in anti-tumorous immunotherapy.
