Abstract: Our results suggest that hyperglycemia has the potential to inhibit the release of progesterone and beta-hCG by human term cytotrophoblast cells. In contrast the expression of estradiol appears not to be impaired. Furthermore our data demonstrate a non-elevated cytotoxity under hyperglycemic conditions versus normoglycemic conditions. We hypothesise a hyperglycemia-induced decline of the release of progesterone and beta-hCG.
