In dieser Arbeit wurde die Grundwasserbelastung durch nitrat im Untersuchungsgebiet
Damaskus-Ghouta beschrieben. Die Auswahl einer geeigneten Methode zur Nitratelimination
unter Berücksichtigung der spezifischen Gegebenheiten in Syrien und Ghouta wurde auch
diskutiert. Zu diesem Zweck wurde die Grundwasserbeschaffenheit eingehend untersucht.
Im Rahmen der experimentellen Arbeit wurde die biologische Denitrifikation im kontinuierlichen
Festbettreaktor unter Verwendung von Essigsäure als Kohlenstoffquelle und gekörnter
Aktivkohle als Trägermaterialien im Labormaßstab durchgeführt.

This work describes the nitrate pollution of groundwater in the study area Ghouta
located in the east of Damascus. The select of a suitable method to remove of nitrate,
taking into account the specific conditions in Syria and Ghouta, has been discussed.
For this purpose, the quality of groundwater has also been evaluated in detail.The
biological denitrification of drinking water using a continuous fixed-bed reactor
was carried out in a laboratory-scale. Acetic acid as carbon source and granular activated
carbon as carrier materials for bacterial attachment were used in these experiments.
