Ausgehend von der Frage, wie Signale, die nur auf einem beschränkten Intervall definiert
sind, durch überlappende lokale trigonometrische Basisfunktionen derart repräsentiert
werden können, dass sich auch an den Signalrändern eine gute Signaldarstellung erzielen
lässt, wird die Anwendung von Basen auf dem Intervall vorgeschlagen. Um die mehrfach
überlappende Kosinustransformation von Bildern mit einem möglichst geringen Berechnungsaufwand
realisieren zu können, werden schnelle Algorithmen eingeführt. Es werden verschiedene
Strategien zur Codierung der Transformationskoeffizienten untersucht.

Starting with the question of how signals that are solely defined on a bounded interval
can be represented by multiple overlapping local trigonometric bases in such a manner
that a good signal representation may be achieved at the boundaries of the signal,
the use of bases for the interval is suggested as a solution. Fast algorithms are
developed in order to realize the multiple overlapping cosine transformation of images
with minimal computational complexity. Finally, this thesis explores different strategies
for the coding of the transformation coefficients.
