Abstract: Starting with the question of how signals that are solely defined on a bounded interval can be represented by multiple overlapping local trigonometric bases in such a manner that a good signal representation may be achieved at the boundaries of the signal, the use of bases for the interval is suggested as a solution. Fast algorithms are developed in order to realize the multiple overlapping cosine transformation of images with minimal computational complexity. Finally, this thesis explores different strategies for the coding of the transformation coefficients.
