Abstract: Atrial fibrillation is the most common arrhythmia. Pulmonary vein isolation offers a curative therapeutic approach to the patients. 449 patients presented to the University of Rostock for catheter ablation (2007-2011) were included in this study and evaluated by the HATCH- (progression of Afib) and CHA2DS2-VASc-Score (thromboembolic risk). Results show that PVI is equally effective in low to moderate risk according to the scores. Complete isolation (2. procedure) of the PVs may overrule underlying mechanisms of disease progression to a certain extend. Both scores were useful predictors.
