Abstract: Efficient oestrus detection is a precendent condition in dairy herd management to achieve good fertility traits. The object of the present study was to investigate the oestrus-dependent vocalization during oestrus cycle using a novel method and the oestrus behaviour of heifers in order to optimize the current oestrus detection. The present results broaden the knowledge of oestrus-dependent vocalization and qualitative aspects of vocalization structures by heifers. Establishing a suitable combinable method for oestrus detection based on automatically audio-recordings seems to be possible in the future.
