Die Arbeit betrachtet die vom ZDF produzierte Geschichtsdokumentation „Die Deutschen
- Ein Jahrtausend deutsche Geschichte“. Der Erfolg der Reihe lässt ein gesteigertes
Bedürfnis nach emotionaler Rückbesinnung des Publikums und ein neues historisches
Selbstverständnis erkennen. Die Reihe kann als ein Indikator für das Verhältnis der
Bevölkerung zur eigenen Vergangenheit gewertet werden. Untersucht wird, wie erfolgreiches
Geschichtsfernsehen gestaltet wird, welche Geschichtsbilder darüber transportiert
werden und auf welches gegenwärtige Nationalgefühl der Deutschen geschlossen werden
kann.

The work considers the historical documentary produced by ZDF "The Germans - A thousand
years of German history." The success of this series shows an increased need for emotional
recollection of the audience and a new historical self-understanding. The series can
be seen as an indicator for the relation of the population to its own past. It considers
at how successful history of television is designed, which historical images are transported
and which current national feeling of the Germans can be assumed.
