Abstract: Methane plays an important role both as greenhouse gas and raw material. In this thesis catalysts for partial oxidation to formaldehyde and oxidative coupling were synthesized, characterized and tested. The influence of the synthesis conditions on catalyst stability and selectivity was investigated. Furthermore supported Pd/CeO2 catalysts were prepared and applied for the total oxidation of methane. Using this system, methane could be fully converted at temperatures as low as 305 °C and with good runtime stability.
