Abstract: The new dating of the initially medieval dated ship finds Poel 11 and Hiddensee 12 caused their re-assessment. The ships, now dated to the late 18th and early 19th century, turned out to be the product of peasant rural clinker-shipbuilding in southwest Finland. Under certain social, economic, political and environmental influences their shipbuilding developed independent and in dissociation of the establishing carvel shipbuilding method.
