Abstract: The objective of this work was the elucidation of the biosynthesis of the secondary metabolite sodorifen, which is emitted by the bacterium Serratia plymuthica 4Rx13. Therefore, the genome and transcriptome data of the producer isolate 4Rx13 and the non-producer isolate AS9 were analyzed. The combination of genome and transcriptome data led to a list of potential candidate genes, which were checked for their functional involvement into the biosynthesis of sodorifen by mutagenesis. Consequently, a cluster of four genes was located and further investigated.
