Abstract: Several bifunctional ammonium and phosphonium salts were employed as one-component catalysts for the conversion of CO2 and epoxides to mono- and polyfunctional cyclic carbonates. It was shown that these cyclic carbonates can be utilized as prepolymers for the synthesis of non-isocyanate polyurethanes (NIPU). Additionally, several organocatalysts were used for the copolymerization of CO2 and formaldehyde. The effects of the reaction parameters on the composition and molecular weight distribution of the polymer were studied.
