Abstract: Several synthetic routes for the synthesis of new low-valent Bi(III)-N compounds were investigated, like the elimination of trimethylsilyl (Me3Si) or trimethylstannyl groups(Me3Sn), the synthesis of four-membered ring systems (cyclo-1,3-dibisma-2,4-diazanes) and the synthesis of tetrazanides ([R-N4-R]2−) and their reaction with bismuth sources. The investigations were focused on the sterical encumbered groups Mes* (supermesitylene, 2,4,6- tri-tert-butylphenyl) and Ter (terphenyl, 2,6-bis(2,4,6-trimethylphenyl)phenyl) and their different reactivities.
