Abstract: The present thesis deals with the synthesis of nitrogen-containing polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) based on pyridine derivatives. Highly functionalized synthetic building blocks have been synthesized by using palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions and utilized for the preparation of benzo[f]- and thieno[3,2-f]quinolines, 5,7-dihydropyrido[2,3-b:6,5-b']diindoles as well as dibenzo[a,j]acridine and dibenzo[c,h]acridine derivatives via different cyclization methods. Some compounds have been investigated regarding their optical properties.
