Abstract: Most enzymes originate from an aqueous solution inside a biological system and may tolerate only limited amount of non-conventional media. However, immobilization of catalysts can overcome those boundaries. In this thesis a simple and fast artificial compartimentalization technique by UV-curing of polyurethane-based materials was studied for the mild inclusion immobilization of biocatalysts. The presented concept provides stable whole cell/enzyme compartments, which can be applied for alcohol dehydrogenases, lipases and even whole cell biocatalysis.
