Abstract: This study focuses on the specific skill of listening in ESP classes for engineering-majors at a German university. The goal was to combine language learning in class und online self-study material at home in a useful manner.The results of this mixed methods study, show that students prefer listening comprehension in class to self-study tasks using learning management systems and that learners apply a variety of listening strategies, e.g. metacognition.
