Abstract: Pilgrimage is an exercised practice in most religions of the world with increasing popularity in the past twenty years in the German-speaking world. Also protestant Christians rediscovered pilgrimage after a 490-years pilgrimage abstention. Wallfahren/Pilgern is an option for uniting action and contemplation as well as the pursuit of truth, beauty and meaning respectively the longing for a stronger involvement of physical experience in a specific way. The specifics consist in the ambulantly enabled temporary intensification of religion and religious experience.
