Abstract: Mitochondria are the main producers of ROS, which can have cytotoxic effects on cellular structures. In the conplastic mtBPL mouse strain with two mtDNA point mutations in the OXPHOS system, the mitochondrial function and the metabolism in the liver were characterized in the aging process up to 12 months. It could be shown that the interaction of both mtDNA point mutations in the mtBPL mouse strain significantly influences the liver metabolism. The examined model thus provides relevant knowledge for humans on mitochondrial triggered aging processes.
