Abstract: This study investigated the influence of predictors and an experienced childhood trauma on coping with the diagnosis of a malignant melanoma and furthermore the development of posttraumatic growth (PR). PR is an independent psychological construct which includes in opposite to resilience a winning view on life perspectives. We identified specific coping strategies and dissociative mechanisms as significant positive predictors for the development of PR in our patients. An distinct correlation between PR and an experienced childhood trauma could not be found.
