Abstract: The presented work describes a non-catalytic method to shift the reaction equilibrium and productivity of transaminase-catalyzed reactions. The addition of a carboxylic acid selectively crystallizes the product amine as a sparingly soluble ammonium salt. To further increase productivity, a semi-continuous reactor system was developed that immobilizes the whole-cell biocatalyst in a membrane reactor. In this way, chiral amines can be produced continuously by biocatalytic methods.
