Abstract: Permanent implants are designed to support specific cellular responses with the goal of tissue regeneration and integration acceleration. The present work addresses the influence of surface charge on the interaction of human osteoblasts with chemically modified titanium surfaces. Cells were shown to favor only the moderate positive ζ-potential range with respect to cell spreading, cell viability, and intracellular Ca2+ mobilization. The ζ-potential appears to be a key parameter for cell interaction at the biomaterial interface.
