Abstract: Dual-fuel engines are increasingly being used to reduce greenhouse gases in the maritime sector. The combustion process utilised by these engines results in a trade-off between regulated nitrogen oxide emissions and emissions of the greenhouse gas methane. Multiple injection strategies offer very high potentials for achieving future emission targets, confirmed by experimental analysis of a wide-range injector’s operating and spray behaviour combined with engine tests performed on a single-cylinder research engine, the results of which are presented here.
