Abstract: The present work describes and analyses the causes and the course of the revival of Gaelic traditional music in Scotland in the 20th century, in particular using the musicological and cultural theoretical models by Tamara Livingston and Owe Ronström. The work focuses on the music of the groups Runrig and Capercaillie, both of which, embedded in the sociocultural and cultural-political changes of the “Gaelic Renaissance” in the 1970s and under the influence of Anglo-American popular musical styles, began to create their own hybrid musical forms of expression.
