Abstract: In this study, it was shown that repeated maternal deprivation affected behavior as well as physiological and immunological parameters in the pigs. In addition, the results suggest that psychosocial stress may increase the susceptibility of piglets to disease in the long term and that sex already plays a crucial role in the adaptive mechanisms of young animals. However, it was also shown that the negative effects of stress can be mitigated by the presence of littermates.
