Abstract: Neonatal alloimmune thrombocytopenia (NAIT) is a rare disease of the newborn. The FNAIT study showed that anti-HPA-1a is still by far the most frequently found antibody, but anti-HPA-5b was, compared to historical data, significantly less frequent. Mothers with detectable anti-HPA-1a were significantly less likely to be RhD negative compared with the normal population. In the anti-HPA-1a study, no correlation was found between antibody concentration and neonatal thrombocytopenia, but a correlation was found between antibody concentration and mild neonatal bleeding signs.
