Abstract: This PhD thesis reports on the influence of sterically demanding substituents (Tipsi, Mes3Si, T*, TROP) on the synthesis and reactivity of N2P2 biradicals and their precursors as well as the cleavage behaviour of the substituents. The biradical [P(μ-NT*)]2 could be prepared, fully characterized and its reactivity was described. The formation of the novel double salt Mg[NPN][PNP], being formed in a one-pot reaction of the diphosphadiazane, Mg and tolan, could be observed. Initial evidence for the successful cleavage of the substituent from the biradical were found for Tipsi and T*.
