Abstract: In this study, CuZn-based catalysts for the CO2 hydrogenation to methanol were investigated and further developed. By doping CuZn/ZrOx with oxides of In, La, Y and Ti, the rates of the individual reaction steps could be changed and the catalytic performance was improved. In addition, kinetic studies on a CuZnAlOx catalyst demonstrated that there are separate active sites for the formation and the decomposition of methanol. By saturating the decomposition sites, an unusually high methanol selectivity of 93 % was achieved at a CO2 conversion of 18.9 %.
