Different lifecycle steps of products (polymers/composites) were described with pyrolysis-based
analytic techniques for their chemical nature and the possibility of improving current
production or recycling processes. Thermal analysis with high-resolution mass spectrometry
enables molecular characterisation and chemical interpretation. The analysis of PE
char from an Auger reactor shows high amounts of partially pyrolyzed feedstock, releasing
alkanes, alkenes and dienes. The combination of lab-based techniques with online tracing
of a pilot plant was used to determine the process performance.
