Dynamically operated, solar-driven Reverse Osmosis for battery-free drinking water supply

Abstract: Batteries account for a significant share of the lifecycle cost of solar-based water desalination systems. Recently, battery-free PVRO has been developed and widely used, requiring less investment and running costs. However, removing batteries leads to high fluctuations and uncontrolled shutdowns during the operation. Because the solar energy curve is inherently intermittent, and sharp energy reductions occur frequently. A novel technology, Multifunctional Driver (MFD), is developed in this thesis to address this drawback of the conventional battery-free solar reverse osmosis systems.
