Abstract: The work deals with the synthesis, characterisation and catalytic application of new iridium bis(thiophosphinite) pincer complexes of the form [(RPSCSPR)Ir(H)(Cl)] (RPSCSPR = κ3 (2,6 SPR2)2-C6H3) (R = iPr, tBu, Ph; X = H, Cl). These can be synthesised via a H2-assisted cyclometallation of the ligand. Ligand exchange at the hydrido-chlorido-Ir(III) complexes led to di- and tetrahydrido complexes and a bis-acetonitrile and triflato complex, respectively. The complexes showed activity in the coupling of terminal alkynes, but were unsuitable for COA-TBE transfer dehydrogenation.
