Abstract: Large bearing rings with induction hardened surface are specifically designed depending on their application and therefore produced in small-batch or single unit production. The high complexity of the induction hardening process impedes the choice of suitable process parameters. This study applies a new approach to develop substitute heat sources for the induction hardening based on experimentally measured temperature-time-curves. In this way, induction hardening can be simulated using a thermo-metallurgic coupled model without simulating the electromagnetic phenomena.
