Abstract: Mandibular defects from tumour resections impair quality of life and often require complex surgeries. Autologous bone grafts, the gold standard, can lead to complications and prolonged healing. Electrical stimulation is a promising alternative but hasn't been applied to mandibular defects. This dissertation develops electrostimulating implants delivering optimal electric field strengths (5-70 V/m) for mandibular regeneration. Using 3D modelling and finite element analysis, implant design is optimised and the impact of uncertain parameters is assessed, advancing oral and maxillofacial surgery.
