In this work, annotations are supplementary information integrated into a visual analytics
system. We conduct a literature survey on existing annotations, extract the annotation
characteristics, and sort them into a morphological box. We develop a model to derive
suitable annotation characteristics for a particular use case and show how a fitting
design for annotations is developed. We implement the annotations to analyze heterogeneous
clinical data. User feedback shows that our approach can help to improve data preprocessing,
data cleansing and data exploration for clinical data.

Wir sehen Annotationen als in ein visuelles Analysesystem integrierte Zusatzinformationen.
Wir erstellen eine Literaturstudie über Annotationen, extrahieren Annotationsmerkmale
und sortieren sie in eine morphologische Box. Wir entwickeln ein Modell zur Ableitung
geeigneter, anwendungsfallbezogener Annotationsmerkmale und zeigen, wie ein passendes
Design entwickelt wird. Wir implementieren Annotationen zur Analyse heterogener klinischer
Daten. Das Feedback der Nutzenden zeigt, dass unser Ansatz zur Verbesserung der Datenvorverarbeitung,
Datenbereinigung und Datenexploration beitragen kann.
