Junge Erwachsene mit Krebs machen nur 2–3% der Neuerkrankungen aus, erleben die Krankheit
jedoch oft als tiefgreifenden Einschnitt. Um ihre Erfahrungen besser zu verstehen,
greift die Studie auf Konzepte der Medien- und Medizinsoziologie zurück — insbesondere
auf Mediatisierung, Medienpraktiken und den besonderen Umgang mit chronischen Erkrankungen.
Aufbauend auf diesem Rahmen analysieren problemzentrierte Interviews in Reha-Einrichtungen,
wie sich Alltag, Identität und soziale Netzwerke im Krankheitsverlauf kommunikativ-medial
verändern und welche Dynamiken dabei sichtbar werden.

Although young adults make up only 2–3% of new cancer cases, the illness often marks
a profound turning point in their lives. To explore how they navigate this experience,
the study builds on approaches from media and medical sociology — focusing on mediatisation,
media practices, and the unique demands of living with a chronic condition. Using
this theoretical lens, problem-centred interviews in rehabilitation centres explore
how everyday routines, identities, and social ties shift and adapt through communicative
and media-related processes during the course of the illness.
