Abstract: The study investigated how the design of orthodontic mini-implants (MIs) and cortical bone thickness affect insertion torque. MIs were tested in artificial bone and porcine iliac crest with varying cortical thicknesses. Insertion torque varied depending on MI type and cortical thickness. Eleven of twelve screw geometry parameters correlated with torque. The results highlight the importance of MI designs adapted to cortical thickness to ensure primary stability and prevent screw fractures.
