Abstract: The habilitation addresses the question of how cooperation among the states of East Asia is possible. Its central argument is that cooperation is possible in principle, yet remains heterogeneous, region-specific, and historically shaped. It can be explained through the integration of key variables from Realism, Liberalism, and Constructivism within the multi-level system of global governance. On this basis, the study analyzes and refines core dynamics of regional, interregional, and interinstitutional cooperation.
